FIRE PROTECTION
At Silco – Sprinkler Systems inspections and service is our specialty, and without a doubt the reason why over 45,000 customers rely on us for periodic inspection and service of critical fire protection equipment. Many Sprinkler installation firms do inspections in between jobs or when new work slows down. Because of this, we find in many cases this practice often results in “overdue inspections” which can cause serious liability concerns. With Silco, inspection, service, and repairs are our mainstay. They always come first.
In addition to wet and dry systems, Silco has extensive expertise with pre-action, deluge, and foam systems. Our technicians also carry fire alarm and engineered suppression systems licenses which allows them to test your entire “system” instead of only the sprinkler components. At the point where these systems interconnect are generally some of the most critical components of the system and are often not tested properly, or sometimes not tested at all.
Customers receive typed inspection reports emailed to them with photos that specifically address any deficiencies or problems found. This not only saves the environment, it’s much faster communication between the customer and Silco. This puts an end to the difficulty of reading hand-written notes when a customer receives a paper invoice, and trying to understand what a problem is based on a vague description!
Also, we have a dedicated Quality Assurance Team who’s sole purpose is to randomly double check our technician’s work over 3,000 times per year. These random audits keep our technicians accountable and subsequently help to guide our future training efforts, holding true to our core value of “Quality is Paramount”. In addition, every technician is eligible for quality bonuses. Because quality is so important to us, we invest over $250,000 annually into this program.
While many companies subcontract larger repairs or even fire pump testing, Silco self performs these services, we can install, inspect and service any configuration of sprinkler systems, fire pumps and backflows. Your life safety equipment will be handled properly, with minimal disruptions, by a Silco technician, instead of a random contractor.
Most of our technicians hold multiple licenses, which also allows them to do inspections on different types of systems on the same visit. Because of this, we eliminate the need for multiple trips on different days to your facility. Sprinkler Systems inspections make sure you are in compliance, and ready in the event of an emergency, otherwise you could risk insurance problems and loss of people and property.

How often do I need to inspect my fire sprinkler system?
There are different pieces of the system that require different inspection frequencies, (annual, quarterly, semi-annual). There are even weekly and 5 year inspection intervals. Since parts of sprinkler systems are often overlooked, your Silco technician will guide you through what needs to be inspected and when.
Can sprinklers go off on their own (heat or physical damage)?
If your room gets above the rated heat threshold or the sprinkler head suffers damage, then the system can discharge accidentally.
Will smoke set off my fire sprinkler system?
Standard sprinkler systems are activated by the presence of sufficient heat, not smoke. However, if you have a pre-action system, it may be connected to smoke detectors.
Can I paint my sprinkler heads?
Painted sprinkler heads are available from the manufacturer, however you cannot paint them yourself and doing so may result in a failure in the operation of the heads if a fire event were to happen.
Do I need fire extinguishers if I have a sprinkler system?
Yes, all commercial buildings are required to have hand portable fire extinguishers regardless of any other life safety equipment in place.
Our technician shows how we perform inspections on your electric and diesel fire pumps.
